Tour Description
Visit the legendary Ararat Brandy Factory, the historic home of Armenia's most famous spirit and one of Yerevan's true landmarks. Founded in 1887 and perched above the Hrazdan gorge, the factory has shaped the identity of Armenian brandy for well over a century — a spirit so celebrated that, as the story goes, Winston Churchill insisted on a regular supply of it.
Your guided tour takes you through the working heart of the factory. You will walk the ageing cellars, where thousands of oak barrels rest in the cool half-light, and learn how distillation, barrel ageing, and blending transform local grapes into brandies of remarkable depth. Your guide will explain what distinguishes Armenian brandy from cognac and other spirits, and how the master blenders judge when a barrel has reached its peak.
Along the way you will discover the brand's history — its tsarist-era origins, its Soviet golden age, and the international awards and famous admirers that built its reputation far beyond Armenia's borders.
The experience concludes with a curated tasting of selected varieties, sampled the way the professionals do: observing the colour, breathing in the aroma, and letting each sip reveal the years it spent in oak. Whether you are a connoisseur or simply curious, the tasting turns everything you have just seen into something you can savour.
Lasting around 1.5 hours, this is one of the easiest and most rewarding cultural experiences to fit into any Yerevan itinerary — and a natural stop for anyone interested in the story of Armenian winemaking and distilling.
