Tour Description
Few sounds say "Armenia" like the duduk — the ancient apricot-wood flute whose warm, mournful voice UNESCO has recognised as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity. You have almost certainly heard it: its haunting tones carried the emotional weight of film soundtracks like Gladiator. This experience takes you to the source — the intimate studio of a master duduk maker in Yerevan.
The visit begins with the wood itself. The master explains why only apricot wood — dense, resonant, and deeply symbolic in Armenia — gives the duduk its singular voice, and how the raw timber is seasoned, bored, shaped, and tuned entirely by hand. You will watch the stages of the craft up close and handle instruments at different stages of creation.
Just as memorable is what the duduk means. The master shares how this instrument accompanies every chapter of Armenian life — weddings and farewells, celebration and mourning — and why its sound is often described as the voice of the Armenian soul.
Then the studio falls quiet for the highlight: a private live performance, played for you alone in the very room where the instrument was born. Heard this close, without stage or microphone, the duduk is an experience few travellers ever forget.
The visit lasts around 2.5–3 hours including transportation, with tea, coffee, and sweets served in true Armenian style. It runs April to October and suits music lovers, culture seekers, and anyone looking to take home a deeper connection with Armenia than a simple souvenir. If you fall in love with the soulful sound of the duduk, instruments can also be purchased directly from the master at the studio.

What Our Travelers Say
“Watching the master craft a duduk by hand and then play it for us was a moving experience. We learned about apricot wood, breath control, and Armenian music. A quiet, deeply human afternoon.”
