Tour Description
Gain rare access to a working manuscript laboratory, where centuries-old Armenian texts are carefully preserved and restored. Armenia has one of the world's richest manuscript traditions, with illuminated texts that once travelled across empires and played a key role in preserving knowledge, religion, and culture.
During your visit, you will be introduced to the techniques used in manuscript creation, including the preparation of natural pigments. Among them is Vordan Karmir, a rare Armenian cochineal dye once so highly valued that it was traded internationally and used in royal garments and manuscripts alike.
You will then take part in a miniature painting workshop, learning to apply traditional methods to create your own artwork inspired by historical designs. The process is intricate and meditative, offering a deeper appreciation of the artistry behind these manuscripts. You will leave with your completed piece, serving as a personal connection to Armenia's intellectual and artistic legacy.
